Classes

What kind of class are you looking for? How proficient are you or your child?

We offer a range of classes to suit all abilities from babies to adults.  Below is a list of classes we offer with the award that they will be working towards within that group.  The ages listed below are average ages only and can vary for each group.

Adult & Child (4 months to 3 years)

Aims:  Water safety, confidence, rotation, submersion, front and back basics, fun and enjoyment, independence from approximately 2 years.  Classes are usually split into age groups, 4m to 18m and 18m to 3yrs.

 

Toddlers/Pre School (3 – 4 years)

ASA Duckling and Puffin Awards

Aims: Taught independently, water safety, confidence, front and back basics, floatation, rotation and submersion.

 

Beginners 1 (4 – 7 years)

ASA Stage 1/2 & Puffin Awards

Aims:  Water confidence, front and back basics, propulsive legs, floatation, rotation, submersion.

 

Beginners 2 (4 – 7 years)

ASA Stage 2/3 & 10 metre Awards

Aims:  Front and back crawl, rotation, breathing, floatation, introduction to breaststroke and butterfly, experiment with different skills eg handstands, sculling etc.

 

Improver 1 (5 – 7 years)

ASA Stage 3/4 & 15/25 metre Awards

Aims:  Building competence in basic elements of propulsion, breathing control, breaststroke and butterfly basics, introduction to out of depth swimming, sitting dives.

 

Improver 2 (6 – 8 years)

ASA Stage 5/6 & 25/50 metre Awards

Aims:  Deep water confidence, use of correct technique in 3 of the main strokes, introduction to touch turns, kneeling and crouch dives, head first and feet first sculling.

 

Advanced 1 (7 – 9 years)

ASA Stage 7 & 100/200 metre Awards

Aims:  Efficient front and back crawl and advancing breaststroke, back somersaults, advanced sculling, basic tumble turns and racing dives.

 

Advanced 2 (8+ years)

ASA Stage 7/8 & 200+ metre Awards

Aims:  Effective front and back crawl, advanced breaststroke and butterfly practices, stroke reduction, tumble turns, personal survival, water polo, synchronised swimming, introduction to early stages of training in competitive swimming.

 

Rookie Lifesaving (8 – 12 years)

The Rookie Lifeguard programme is the junior award scheme of the RLSS UK and explores water safety and alternative safe aquatic play.  The awards contain survival, rescue and sports skills as well as life support and water safety elements.
